True and False Conversion
by Pastor Steve Brown, M. Div.

"The great truth that most evangelicals do not realize is that most of the so called conversions that are happening in the present evangelical churches are false conversions. "

One of the major problems that have caused the organized church to become so corrupt is that many of the people claiming to have gotten saved never have truly been born again.  I call these false conversions.  These can be found in the both evangelical and non-evangelical churches.  The non-evangelical churches do not use terms such as “saved”, “converted”, “born-again” or received Christ or committed my life to Christ as the evangelical do.  They are usually high churches that believe that babies and people are saved when they are baptized in water.  Their faith is confirmed in confirmation classes where they study church doctrine.  Types of Churches that believe that water baptism saves people are the Roman Catholic, some Lutheran churches. Greek Orthodox, some Methodists, and even some Southern Christian churches.  Of course those who understand the scriptures realize that baptism in water alone, does not save anyone.

The Bible teaches us in John 3 and Mark 1 and Acts 2 that a person must hear the Good News about Jesus Christ feel convicted of their sin, then chose to repent of sin and call upon the Lord Jesus in faith to save them and give them the new birth.  Baptism is the physical act a new believer does to confirm and seal the salvation he has experienced.  Most evangelical realize that high-church members have never been born again because they are not taught the need.
